This is the period in the UK from 1900 to the First World War as taken from notes from Miss Brocklebank's diaries (Daisy) to her family and close friends. Daughter of Sir Thomas Brocklebank, second Baronet and head of the Brocklebank Shipping Co of Liverpool UK. Brocklebank Dock in Liverpool UK bears their name.
If you drive carriages of any sort, you will certainly love this book as Miss Brocklebank was the foremost whip of her time. In 1906 she logged 1,758 miles driving a coach and four horses. This is at a time when "ladies did not drive a four"!.
This book has 114 pps and lots of beautiful black and white photographs. It's quite a historic tour when looking at the outfits,turnouts, places, people, horses and carriages and stable yards. There are pictures of lovely Inns and what the English term "Snickets" which is an entrance from the road through a building, to stables at the rear. The training of the carriage horses meant taking them out for two hours each morning and the Boys-Brigade brought their drum and bugle band to let the young horses hear some music. Chapters take you on tour with the carriage and horses to various destinations, coaching in the Lake District,Horse Shows, Olympia Competitions and much more besides. A wonderful historical and nostalgic trip.
